Sun 14 Sep 2025: Tattie in the bucket

Last minute note by Nicky: Anyone attending tattie day is welcome to bring along flower show entries or return trophies to me there - they need to be in by Thursday!

The "Tattie in the bucket" competition is judged on the 2nd Sunday in September (before the flower show the week after, so you can enter your best ones in the show). The tattie and bucket are bought in the shop each season, we often have about 60 entries. It is good fun and anyone can join even if they don't have a vegetable patch as the tatties are grown in the supplied bucket and the buckets returned at judging.

The big 6 competition is dug and weighed beforehand. The big 6 competition is to grow the most potatoes possible from 6 seed potatoes, your own choice of variety. Payment is made on the dig up day when we meet in the village and divide up to dig each others potatoes for the big reveal - when the prize money gathered is then allocated to the top 3 growers for the year. Heaviest potatoes can also be entered in the flower show.
